At The Nurtury Montessori, we are a close-knit, family-owned Montessori school serving children aged 6 weeks to 6 years across Westchester County, with locations in New Rochelle, Larchmont, and Rye Brook. Since 2007, we’ve been providing full-day, authentic Montessori education that nurtures children’s independence, curiosity, and confidence.

Our facilities include beautifully prepared classrooms, specialized Nido Rooms for infants, child-sized furniture, engaging outdoor play areas, and enrichment opportunities in art, music, and cultural studies.

Assistant Teacher

The Teaching Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in creating and maintaining a peaceful, engaging Montessori classroom environment. The Assistant helps prepare the learning environment, supports the daily rhythm of the class, and models grace, courtesy, and respect for each child. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early childhood education, loves working with children, and wishes to grow within the Montessori philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining an orderly, clean, and welcoming classroom environment.

- Prepare Montessori materials and classroom activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.

- Observe children and assist in maintaining records of progress and daily routines.

- Protect each child’s concentration and independence by using gentle, respectful guidance.

- Model positive social behaviors, language, and problem-solving skills consistent with Montessori practices.

- Assist with diapering, toileting, and self-care routines in accordance with classroom age levels.

- Supervise children indoors and outdoors, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere.

- Communicate professionally and warmly with parents, staff, and administrators.

- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and required annual training (minimum of 15 hours per year).

- Uphold The Nurtury’s values of respect, patience, curiosity, and lifelong learning.

Qualifications & Skills

- Minimum 18 years of age.

- Prior experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting preferred.

- Genuine interest in pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education or Montessori teaching.

- Positive attitude, reliability, and a collaborative spirit.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction from the Lead Teacher.

- Montessori experience or training is a plus (not required—training opportunities available).

Part-Time Classroom Staff

As a Part-Time Classroom Staff member, you will work alongside our Lead Teachers and classroom team to help create a warm, safe, respectful, and engaging environment for children.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves working with children and is interested in gaining experience in early childhood education and/or the Montessori method.

Part-time staff may support classrooms across our Infant, Toddler, and Primary programs depending on experience, qualifications, and school needs.

Responsibilities

Support Lead Teachers with daily classroom activities and routines

Help maintain a safe, clean, peaceful, and welcoming classroom environment

Engage warmly and respectfully with children throughout the day

Assist children with daily routines such as meals, transitions, toileting, rest, and outdoor activities, as appropriate to the classroom

Encourage children's independence while providing appropriate guidance and support

Observe and respond to children's individual needs with patience and care

Help prepare and organize classroom materials and learning environments

Support transitions between classroom activities and daily routines

Assist with playground and outdoor supervision

Communicate respectfully and professionally with teachers, children, families, and fellow team members

Follow school policies, health and safety procedures, and licensing requirements

Maintain confidentiality and uphold the values and philosophy of The Nurtury Montessori

Participate in training and professional development opportunities

What We’re Looking For

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a classroom team

Previous childcare, babysitting, nursery, early childhood, or teaching experience preferred

Interest in Montessori education is a plus

Montessori experience or training is welcome, but not required

Must be 18 years or older and able to meet applicable state requirements
